CC2017: Modern Dollhouse Design

My small 'cabin' didn't stay small for long!

I've figured out my changes to the structure design and completed most of the base construction.  I just need to cut and frame out the many windows.  I've decided to go contemporary with concrete, wood, and glass.  I felt like a flat roof would be more suited to this style but I want to keep the essence of the kit as much as possible.  So it will be a mix of flat and angled roof lines.

Before:

Now:
I made some changes to the kit layout...  The right side wall now recessed and I took away the kit's porch. Instead I've cut out some living space to make room for a new porch and a new front.

And the whole thing might have increased in square footage...  easy to do when the floor slides out and you can slide in a new bigger piece ;)

I decided to add even more additional space to create an airy and open main living room.  One side features a separate room box with a bed and bath. The new rooms are a little smaller then I'd like... but I'm trying to keep this house from sprawling out!  They'll just have to do!

The planned layout is below:

Thankfully the whole building fits great on top the desk I have!

Update: Incase anyone else is questioning, I was just reassured that all the kit bashing is all okay :) Whew! Build away!

Hope your all having a great week!

  1. just waiting to see if - maybe - it even gets an entrance hall, mud room, etc. ... lol.
jokes aside: I understand you. not much one can do with such little space
I just hope that they accept all the bashing and additions...

    1. Haha! I know... :D I swear that's as big as it's getting!

Honestly I'm okay if it doesn't work out for the contest. This kit has been the perfect starting point for me to build my first full house.

  2. Hi Kristine!
I am already groovin on your proposed modifications of the HBS kit! I love the jog out from the living room to accommodate the dining area as well as your general organization of the interior. The abundant and large windows are your PaperDoll Miniature "signature" which I'm delighted to see applied to this house kit. The overall impression based on your drawing is that this build is going to be FAB! :D

    1. Thanks Elizabeth! It's true, for me windows are the most important part of any of my projects. That and the ability to open the walls up to have more view points. I'm still trying to figure out how this house will open up. I'd really like the front to open as well... we'll see! :)

    2. Also incase anyone else is questioning, I was just reassured by HBS that the kit bashing is all okay :) Whew! Build away!

I updated my post and removed the query in hopes that I haven't confused anyone.

  10. I love your idea Kristine. All of those windows are perfect for getting an unhindered view of the interior details. How are you planning to connect the bedroom/bathroom part to the main house? Just wondering if the bathroom will be completely open to view of a little vista through an open door. Really looking forward to seeing your build progress :0)

    1. Thanks Pepper! I think I took a look at your comment during the 'what I'm I doing? this is never going to work!' stage. Thankfully things have progressed ;) The bed/bath will remain a separate structure and I'll have some sort of hallway inside. I'm saving the interior of the roombox for later down into the build. One thing at a time as much as possible! :D
