In less than 8 months, I've built my very first dollhouse! That's right. My first! Kind of a requirement for a dollhouse blog to have, I think, and it's been long overdue! Welcome to the Belmont House. A modern luxury home ready to move in!
These were my four contest submission photos. In 2018 I will give a detailed tour along with "behind the scenes" with info on how I made things in each room.
I feel like this is a really big reveal since I've been so quiet with updates. I was working up to 16 hour days to get it finished in time and couldn't quite get the balance of blogging and creating. Thank you so much for your patience dear readers! I look forward to what's to come!
Also a big thanks to HBS Miniatures for the contest. It really is the perfect motivation to get a project done! I can't wait to see all the other entries, the ones I've seen so far have all been fabulous and unique!
Now off to put up the mini Christmas tree in my very own dollhouse!!
WOW. Just...WOW.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to more pictures!
Thanks Keli :) I hope to get more up soon!
DeleteJiminy Christmas! Kristine this is fantastic! I can't wait to hear all about the build, especially the tile work in the bathroom! If this is your first, you have got brilliant things in your dollhouse future! It is so exciting to be on the journey with you!
ReplyDeleteHi Jodi thanks so much. It's crazy that I've only done roomboxes up until this point! :)
DeleteIt's gorgeous! I'm ready to shrink down to 1:12 scale and move in. Just beautiful! Can't wait to see more pictures.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sheila, I really wish that too!
DeleteEstá genial!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Isabel!
DeleteYour work is perfect, modern, real looking, functional and inspiring! Huge WOW!!! This can't be your first house ... the level of perfection is incredible! Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marion! I'm so happy to finally share!
DeleteAnd the fact that you present it with background outside puts in a different league..
ReplyDeleteWhat a difficultly that was! The house is just so big!!! The cost of a poster that size would have been too much. And there was too much SNOW outside in the real world! Next Even this combined image poster was too small! I wish I had more time to get it right but I was so late and ran out of time!
DeleteI know the problem... I usually spend about CHF80 just for the poster - never mind shooting the right foto at the right time of the day. Our hobby is so broad: from designing homes to fiddly work to photography and video editing!!
DeleteBut if you want to I can send you (jpg or printed version) some of the backdrops I have - if there is still enough time for your entry. let me have your mail adress (marion@mrd.ch) and I will send you previews of the selection I have. most of them are at least 60m high and pretty wide.
Thank you so much for your offer Marion! Actually the deadline has passed as it was the 15th. I took the pictures that same night and I was very very rushed. Photographs are really important to me so I was disappointed that I didn't have time to fix them properly.
DeleteWell, I'll know how to better my time management for my next dollhouse.
And wow for CHF80 those posters were very expensive!! I mean very worthwhile and beautiful I'm sure but expensive. It does pay for itself with the ease of knowing it will look perfect. You always do have lovely backdrops!
I still have to take more photos and so this time I will make my poster larger so I can set it farther back to blur it with my camera. It only cost $10 to print on multiple sheets like I did and attach them together. I found a site called pixabay .com and it has "free for commercial use" and "no attribution required" extremely hi-res images. So I'm going to try this all again and photograph the house this week. If that doesn't work out I'll contact you to see what images you have. Again many thanks.
I really do have to take more photographs because last night I somehow cracked my camera's SD card in half.... so I'm not joking about needing to re-shoot.
That seems to be a good alternative as well - just connecting them carefully is difficult. But when I see how much I spend on the building and all, I just close my eyes and order anyway ;-)
DeleteThing is that they have to be matt so that no glare crops up.
In this case my offer is too late. But if you ever need, let me know - I am happy to pass them on. Not much use in the cupoard here...
I take all photos and videos with iphone since a couple of years and the results are totally convincing. Sometimes I get an extra light source from a photographer friend - but I try to do without... too many cables on the floor ;-)
Just busy with photo shooting my new house now... as long as the light is still ok.
Selecting the best shots is another task, then. But it is a great way to spend a Sunday :-)
Wait a second... you shoot your photos on an iPhone?!! What? No way! They look too good! I have a really old iPhone and the images are never as clear. Another reason to upgrade ;)
DeleteI can't wait to see the new photos (and hopefully video!)
It's stunning! I can't wait to learn more about how you built it. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThanks Penelope!
DeleteIf this doesn’t get HBS recognition then they must be drinking. I can’t even find the right words to capture the degree of mini perfection you attained. All that hard work paid off. Congrats!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kat! :)
DeleteYou've done a marvellous job. Should do very well in HBS Miniatures contest
ReplyDeleteThank you Tina!
DeleteHow wonderful!!!
ReplyDeleteGeneviève
Thank you Genevieve!
ReplyDeleteI'm in awe, Kristine this is just perfect! I'm in love with the bathroom and actually anything else. What a great dollhouse you made, all the little perfect details... Just, wow!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Susi! :D
DeleteThe house is just wonderful! I like the atmosphere, colors, furniture and all the lovely details!
ReplyDeleteHehe...I went and stalked you over on Instagram so I could look at more pictures. Can't wait to hear what you used for the stonework on the exterior and the fireplace. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you did, honestly instagram is much easier for photos because I quickly take them on my phone! With the blog I have to upload and resize etc. But the blog is great for tutorials and giving greater detail. So yes, instagram will have a lot more photos :)
DeleteStunning!! I´m sure you will do great in the contest. This house is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThe whole house is superb, but I must have that bathroom in real life!!! :D I am looking forward to the behind the scenes. I will be surprised if you don't take home a top prize. Best of luck! :D
ReplyDeleteI'm hopping on a plane and moving in... after I get myself downsized. :D
ReplyDeleteP.S. I must know how you do your tiles!
