Urban Town Dollhouse: Kit Design

Part 2 in the Urban Town Dollhouse series.  Today I'm going to share a bit about the journey to make the Urban Town dollhouse kit.

The Urban Town Dollhouse was designed by me for miniaturescom.  The kits are no longer in production.
The remaining kits are now being sold by Greenleaf  now that miniaturescom/Houseworks has been taken over by new owners.  (I do not earn anything from that link or those sales).

This dollhouse journey started in June 2023.  Like the Brentwood I first built the dollhouse out of foam core.  I find it always helps me see the size and visualize everything.  It's also really easy to make new changes, like the depth.  My biggest challenge was trying to keep the dollhouse narrow while including stairs.

I submitted my drawings, cad files and other documents in September and then excitedly waited.

The first sample didn't arrive until May!  Everything was looking good, but I decided to move the kitchen to the back of the house and add window along the back wall.  I also made adjustments to the doors so that there could be a beautiful single panel door in the bathroom.   We also split the bathroom wall to make it easier to access the back hallway.

I got my second sample in June 2024, it had the changes plus an additional railing on the front porch which I love.  The stairs still needed a bit of retooling.  So we ended up getting a third and final sample in July 2024.  Thankfully it was perfect.   The whole process gave me neighbourhood of Urban Towns.  I think they look great as row houses.

    1. Hi Lynda! Sorry it isn't working for you. It's paperdollminis @ gmail.com with no spaces. I don't want a bunch of spam, so I don't want to type it all one word. Otherwise I'm on facebook and IG.
